Bookkeeper Job Description

Main duties to include, but not limited to, the following types of work:-

  • Provide a bookkeeping service along with preparing and submitting VAT returns
  • Preparing information & journals for monthly & annual accounts
  • Posting & managing purchase ledgers onto Sage 50
  • Managing staff credit card & cash expenses
  • Monthly bank & supplier reconciliations
  • PAYE & CIS management
  • Paying contractors, suppliers & payroll
  • Liaising with creditors and HMRC with any queries
  • Creating engineer time sheets from job management software reports
  • Managing company & employee records & subscriptions
  • Liaising with insurance providers to get the best policies each year
  • General office administrative duties, including filing, answering telephones, etc

You will need to be able to:

  • Show a high level of accuracy
  • Work independently & alongside other team members when required
  • Liaise with the company Director & accountant
  • Be a skilled multi-tasker

Work should be carried out to the highest standard, whilst ensuring accuracy and confidentiality are met. Overcoming any problems that may arise during the job.

Requirements, Qualifications & Experience

  • Highly competent Sage user
  • Experience in the construction industry, for CIS & reverse charge vat work
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel & Word
  • Experience with VAT reporting
  • Experience with payroll & pensions, including auto-enrolment
  • AAT qualifications or part qualified ACCA / CIMA
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in bookkeeping

Key Performance Indicator’s (KPI’s)

As part of the job position we will be looking for the successful applicant to meet these KPI’s:

  • Weekly & Monthly payroll details submitted on time
  • CIS & Vat returns submitted on time
  • To ensure all payments including VAT, wages and invoices are paid on time
  • All figures entered into Sage or any reports are accurate
  • To meet the Company culture and standards at all times

  • Initially 25 hours per week (5 hours/day), with flexibility to increase over time
