Apprenticeship Support from Worcester Bosch Boilers

One of our apprentices, Sean Mitchell, has just been accepted on the Worcester Accredited Installer (WAI) Apprenticeship Programme.

Sean who is just starting his Level 3 NVQ, was one of 24 apprentices who have been individually picked from around the UK to carry out 11 days of additional training over the coming year working directly with Worcester Bosch. The training will include:

  • Information required before, during and after installing a new boiler;
  • The different types of boilers including gas and oil;
  • Learning about different controls, how they benefit the customer and how they’re wired into the system;
  • How to effectively clean an existing heating system;
  • How to use a flue analyser and multi meter;

Sean will also have the opportunity to work along side a Worcester Technician working on boilers under warranty, where most of the calls are due to installer error. At the end of the training there will be a presentation for “Apprentice of the Year” which will be awarded to the apprentice who the trainers feel have put the most effort into this programme.

I feel this is a great opportunity for Sean and the other apprentices to improve their knowledge within the industry and help create better engineers for the future. Well done for Worcester Bosch for creating the programme and helping to raise the industry standards.

Do you want to Boost your water main flow rates or pressure?

Do you have or want a combination boiler or mains-fed plumbing system (like a Megaflo) but don’t have good water flow or pressure?

Then we can help!!!

More houses are using the water main to directly feed all the taps and showers, rather than having gravity fed supplies from a cold water tank in the loft.

This can have advantages such as a great flow rates and high pressures from the taps and showers without the need for pumps, although this relies upon the water main being able to deal with the demand.

Where poor flow rates are evident from water mains, an accumulator can be fitted to boost the water flow to the taps and showers. This can also help larger properties where multiple taps or showers are used at the same time, causing a high demand on the water main.

An accumulator is a large vessel that stores water under pressure, which is released into the plumbing system when the water main can’t cope with the demand. This keeps the water flow rate at a constant rate.

Where low water pressures are also evident, a booster pump will also be required to pump the water into the accumulator.

The picture shows an accumulator fitted on the left, along with two unvented Worcester cylinders, to keep constant water flow rates at a large house with four bathrooms.

Landlords Required to Install CO Alarms

Landlords will be required by law to install working carbon monoxide and smoke alarms in their properties.

The measure took effect from October 2015, and comes with strong support after a consultation on property condition in the private rented sector.

The move will help prevent up to 26 deaths and 670 injuries a year.

The proposed changes to the law would require landlords to install carbon monoxide alarms in high risk rooms – such as those where boilers or gas fires are installed.

Landlords would also need to install smoke alarms on every floor of their property, and test them at the start of every tenancy.

Ensuring the safety of tenants

Those who fail to install smoke and carbon monoxide alarms would face sanctions and could face up to a £5,000 civil penalty.

This would bring private rented properties into line with existing building regulations that already require newly-built homes to have hard-wired smoke alarms installed.

Commercial Boiler Installations

Premier Heating can now offer commercial installation services.

Whether you require just a boiler replacement, controls upgrade or complete new system we can help.

We have just completed the replacement of four old Keston 50kW boilers with two new Worcester 100kW boilers, on a cascade system, at a private school in Surrey.

The new Worcester GB162 100kW boilers can automatically modulate there output down to less than 20% in order to precisely match the demand for heat. This reduces fuel consumption and improves overall seasonal efficiency considerably.

These boilers were fitted with a Energy Management System (EMS) modular controls platform, optimising performance by keeping the boiler in condensing mode for as long as possible. EMS also provides comprehensive heating system functionality and ensures minimal energy usage at all times.
